About the client

The client is a United States provider of spread betting, CFD and forex trading. Private traders in over 50 countries use its platform.

Objective

The client had a native iOS app for trading accounts and a plan for its next version. Its own team lacked the mobile capacity to carry it out. It wanted an outside team that builds the planned functions at a stable quality for years.

What we built

The product is a mobile app where a trader manages a spread betting, CFD and forex account. It started on native iOS. Later the client chose Xamarin to share the development between iOS and Android. One mobile developer and one QA specialist worked on it for more than nine years.

Trading and orders

• Built the opening and closing of positions, with a dedicated chart to monitor them.
• Added stop orders and limit orders, with “if done” and OCO variants.
• Let the trader create, amend and review orders.

Market data

• Built streaming charts with historical and live prices, so the trader finds price patterns and trends.
• Published investment news from Reuters inside the app.
• Added push notifications on price changes for chosen markets.

Account and access

• Added sign-in with Touch ID.
• Built a trial mode that works without signing up.
• Built the trading account management. Security came first, because the app handles account data and transactions.

Result

The app is in production. The cooperation lasted more than nine years (client data). Private traders in over 50 countries use the platform, which handles around 2 million trades a month (client data). When the client opened its own mobile development centre, one Xamarin developer joined its team. Another developer kept supporting the native iOS app.
