Bono IA: get your company ready for Spain's AI voucher

The Government of Spain has announced a 600-million-euro public grant, the Bono IA, so SMEs and companies can adopt artificial intelligence with European technology providers. Applications are not open yet, and no eligibility rules, amounts or deadlines have been published. Here is what has been published and how to arrive prepared.

The voucher is flagship project number 11 of Plan IA360, presented on 21 September 2026. There are no regulatory bases, no call in the Official Gazette, no eligibility rules, no amounts per company and no provider registry yet. What follows comes from the official plan document.

What the plan says

What the voucher will fund

According to the official text, the grant targets services that transform the production processes of beneficiary companies.

  • AI-based services and solutions provided by European technology companies
  • That use foundation models as an input and add their own value: development, integration, sector knowledge, data processing or process redesign
  • With a prior maturity diagnosis, a concrete use case and later measurement of the impact on productivity
  • With milestone payments and conditions on AI training for staff, according to the intended design
  • Linked to the NEURONA network of AI demonstration centres
  • The plan states explicitly that the voucher will not fund mere licence subscriptions.

What you can do today

There is no need to wait for the call to start. The existing programmes with an AI category (Kit Consulting and Kit Digital) currently show their SME calls as closed, and the Bono IA does not accept applications. What is useful now is having the diagnosis and the use case ready.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Bono IA

When will applications for the Bono IA open?
There is no open deadline. As of October 2026 only the announcement within Plan IA360 exists. The plan foresees a controlled pilot in the first half of 2027 and a general call before the end of 2027.
What are the eligibility requirements for the Bono IA?
There are no regulatory bases yet, so no official requirements exist. The plan describes the scheme the grant will follow: a European technology provider, a prior maturity diagnosis, a concrete use case, measurement of the impact on productivity, milestone payments and AI training for staff.
How much is the Bono IA worth per company?
Not published. The plan sets a global budget of 600 million euros and a target of 25,000 companies, but no amounts per company or brackets by size.
Can freelancers (autónomos) apply for the Bono IA?
The Moncloa presentation note and the Oficina Nacional de Emprendimiento post of 20 October 2026 mention "SMEs and self-employed workers"; the plan document speaks of "companies" and "SMEs". None of the three is a legal text: the regulatory bases will settle it.
What does the Bono IA fund and what not?
The grant will cover AI services and solutions from European technology companies that add their own value on top of foundation models. It will not fund mere licence subscriptions.
Are there approved Bono IA providers?
Not yet. The provider figure is created by the regulatory bases, and they are not published. When they come out, they will set how a provider is accredited and where that information is published. That is how Kit Digital and Kit Consulting work with their adhered agents. That will be the place to check a company. Until then, use common sense: ask to be shown where the call is published and compare the proposal with what the plan already describes.
Is ArtBits an accredited Bono IA provider?
No provider figure or official registry exists yet for the Bono IA. When the procedure is published, ArtBits will apply. In the meantime we work with the same scheme the plan describes.
How does it relate to Kit Digital and Kit Consulting?
The plan document does not mention those programmes or the "digitising agent" figure. Whether their model will be reused is unknown. Their SME calls are currently listed as closed.
