Cloud integration platform: code base rewrite and new functions for launch

About the client

A Norwegian company that has sold backup services in Norway since 2012. It is building a platform on Azure for integrations between cloud and on-premise systems. A company we had worked with before referred the client to us.

Objective

The existing code base had many layers of abstraction and was hard to maintain. The client wanted the code base upgraded and the missing functions built before the go-live. The product also had to scale in later development phases.

What we built

The platform lets a user set up automated integrations between cloud systems and on-premise systems. The user builds a workflow in the interface and runs it on a schedule or by hand. One .NET developer from ArtBits worked on the product for 15 months.

Code base

• Reviewed the existing code base in full. The system had many abstractions, and we needed to know which parts to rewrite before we touched them.
• Rewrote the segments marked for refactoring.
• Simplified the rewritten parts so that a small team can maintain them for years.

Functions and launch

• Built the new functions the client needed before the go-live.
• Upgraded the user interface in Blazor.
• Maintained the platform while the client’s development continued towards the launch.

Result

The code base is now structured and optimised, and the platform is ready for its launch. The work took 15 months (client data). The platform connects cloud and on-premise systems (client data). Workflows run in two modes, on a schedule or by hand (client data). The system scales better than before and the interface is easier to use (client data).
