About the client

A Swedish IT and telecom company that builds apps and mobile telephony services. Its users are elderly people and people with dementia or a cognitive disability, in rehabilitation or in a care facility.

Objective

The client wanted to protect users who take part in extreme outdoor activities. It also wanted to cover employees in high-risk environments. In both cases a person in trouble has to reach care staff or a relative fast. The staff has to know where that person is.

What we built

The product has three parts: a GPS safety alarm, an IoT platform and a medication reminder. The alarm has a built-in button. A press sends the position over the mobile network to a website, a mobile app or a relative’s device. The platform collects data from GPS devices, smart watches and other sensors, so a relative sees where the user is. The medication reminder has a mobile phone module and sends an SMS when it is time to take a medication. Two developers worked on the product for more than two years, in C#, .NET, Xamarin, native iOS and JavaScript.

Devices and platform

  • Developed the operating system of the GPS alarms further.
  • Maintained the primary system that receives the alarms.
  • Supported the data exchange between the devices and the platform.

Integrations with partners

  • Built server-to-server integrations with alarm centres.
  • Connected other partners of the client in the same way.
  • Added integrations for identity and authorization.

Result

The alarms and the primary system existed before our work. We developed them further and maintained them for more than two years (client data). One button sends the user’s position to care staff or a relative (client data). The alarm reaches three channels: a website, a mobile app and a relative’s device (client data).
